Joint research and development projects, technology transfer, employment opportunities, personnel exchanges and the establishment of laboratories... In recent years, scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation between China and Africa have become more and more in-depth. Officials and experts from some African countries believe that China's partner is "reliable" and China's experience is "excellent". Mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation has effectively promoted scientific and technological innovation and green energy construction in Africa.

In an exclusive interview with a reporter from Xinhua Agency, Ethiopia's Minister of Innovation and Technology Belette Mora said that China upholds the spirit of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation in the process of scientific and technological exchanges between the two countries. Ethiopia has learned from China's excellent experience and improved its people's livelihood.

"If we talk about scientific research, technological innovation and digitalization, China is our best example. China is at the forefront of scientific and technological progress." Mora said,"Ethiopian students and researchers have received scholarships from China, and they have played a key role in the development of science and technology in their country after returning from their studies."

China and Ethiopia have long maintained good cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation. On December 20, 2019, China successfully launched the China-Brazil Earth Resources Satellite 04A satellite at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center, ushering in a "high-profile moment" for scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. This mission also carries China's "South-South Cooperation" project to address climate change-eight satellites including Ethiopia's microsatellite and the "Tianqin-1" technical test satellite. According to reports, Ethiopian experts participated in the design and production of the satellite, which will help promote Ethiopia's development in space science and technology.

Addressing climate change is inseparable from energy transformation. China is using its accumulated experience and technology to provide construction capabilities and expertise for green energy projects in Africa.

Mustafa Shelbini, an Egyptian expert on sustainable development and climate risk assessment, said in an interview with Xinhua Agency that hundreds of millions of people in Africa do not have access to electricity."With China building solar energy projects in many African countries, the African continent's energy self-sufficiency has been greatly developed."

In the desert hinterland of Aswan Province in southern Egypt, 32 power plants have been built and put into operation in the current photovoltaic industrial park built by Chinese companies with the help of Egypt. This photovoltaic industrial park covers an area of 37 square kilometers and plans to build 40 solar power plants with a total installed capacity of approximately 2 gigawatts. Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy issued a statement in April this year saying that this photovoltaic industrial park will help Egypt increase the use of renewable energy and is expected to reduce emissions by 2 million tons of carbon dioxide every year.

According to Shelbini, Egypt very needs China to provide expertise in the field of renewable energy for the Egyptian market, especially because Egypt is preparing to develop into a regional and global energy center by exporting green hydrogen, green ammonia, etc. In addition, China not only directly invests in renewable energy projects in African countries, but also provides financing,"which is crucial for the transfer of renewable energy technologies."

Shelbini believes that climate issues have affected food, water and health. Addressing climate challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals require vigorously promoting the application of renewable energy, and China is playing an important role in this regard. Source: Xinhuanet
