Recently, the draft for comments on the environmental impact assessment report for the capacity expansion and transformation project of the battery-grade sulfate plant of Wanhua Chemical (Yantai) Battery Materials Technology Co., Ltd. was announced.

After the transformation, the project annually produces 81000 tons of nickel sulfate crystals hexahydrate, 16000 tons of cobalt sulfate crystals heptahydrate, 9500 tons of manganese sulfate, and at the same time, by-products 7960 tons of basic magnesium carbonate, 18000 cubic meters of magnesium sulfate solution, 500 tons of copper concentrate, 2500 tons of chemical manganese dioxide ore powder and 1000 tons of crude nickel cobalt hydroxide.

According to public information, this device is mainly aimed at battery-grade salt processing and production. Currently, the operating cost of the device is high and the project benefits are low. This expansion has three main purposes:

(1) Supply raw materials for the precursor production equipment, and at the same time use some self-produced by-products as excipients for the project to reduce the cost of the precursor. In addition, this expansion mainly increases the production capacity of nickel sulfate hexahydrate crystals from the current 10,000 gold tons to 18,000 gold tons.

(2) Ensure the stable quality of production precursor products, and use Wanhua chemical hydrometallurgy technology to solve the problem of unstable or exceeding the standard of magnetic substances and other indicators of battery-grade sulfates on the market.

(3) Closed-loop production of raw materials to realize the recycling of nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium waste generated during the production of subsequent battery materials such as precursors and cathode materials. Source: Wanhua Chemical
