Xuke New Materials's 30,000-ton PBAT/PBS project is put into operation

Recently, the 30,000-ton/year PBAT/PBS and 10,000-ton/year succinic acid/succinic anhydride projects of Xuke New Materials (Shandong) Co., Ltd., which were contracted and constructed by China Fifth Ring Engineering Co., Ltd., were completed and put into operation, and steadily produced succinic acid and succinic anhydride products with a purity of more than 99.5%. This project is the world's first petroleum-based 10,000-ton hydrogenation project to prepare succinic anhydride. It focuses on scientific research, production, sales and services of high-performance new materials, and mainly produces degradable materials and related fine chemical products.
With the increasing pressure on environmental protection and the increasing public's awareness of environmental protection, green and low-carbon development is not only advocated by the country, the trend of the industry, the public's call, and the expectation of society, but has also become the path of many companies. The proposal of the "double carbon" goal has sounded the clarion call for transformation and upgrading of the traditional petroleum and chemical industry, and "reducing oil and increasing chemical production" has become an inevitable trend. How fossil energy utilization can transform from "fuel" to "material" has attracted much attention. At the same time, in the face of increasing white pollution,"plastic restriction" has been the focus of attention in recent years, and the development of degradable materials such as PBAT and PBS is highly anticipated. Therefore, this project provides an overview of how to effectively link the "oil head" and "plastic tail" of the green chemical new material industry, Promoting the high-end, green and integrated development of plastics industry clusters has important demonstration significance. The project will help build a C4 industrial chain and achieve the coordinated development of upstream and downstream products.
Wuhuan Company is committed to accelerating the creation of a "comprehensive solution service provider and supplier of high-end chemicals and advanced materials in the field of industrial engineering" and spares no effort in tackling key core technologies of new materials. Relevant technical achievements have also been fully demonstrated in this project.
The PBS device of this project uses new technologies jointly developed by the process development team of Wuhuan Company, the technical expert team of Xuke Company and the R & D team of Jiangnan University. The R & D personnel carried out technical research and improvement on the polymerization characteristics of PBS, making it excellent in product quality adjustment and long-term stable operation of the device. At the same time, the device has high production flexibility. The device can use succinic acid as raw material for polymerization, or directly use succinic anhydride raw material for polymerization. The obtained product has a higher degree of polymerization, better color, and ultra-low acid value.
The project's succinic anhydride and succinic acid plant production also applies new technologies independently developed. For the first time, the double selective hydrogenation reaction of maleic anhydride (maleic anhydride) was achieved on a 10,000-ton industrial plant. The conversion rate of maleic anhydride was 100%., succinic anhydride selectivity was 100%, and it has the advantages of few by-products, high anhydride yield, and low overall energy consumption. The R & D team of Jiangnan University provided catalysts and technical support, and Wuhuan Company completed technical development and engineering design.
It is worth mentioning that the project is the first time in the world to use the succinic anhydride hydrolysis slicing process to produce succinic acid. The process has low investment, low energy consumption, and high product purity, and can fully meet the needs of polymerized-grade PBS raw materials. The entire set of process technology is pioneering and advanced, laying a good technical foundation for the subsequent construction of a 100,000-ton device.
Currently, the first phase of the project includes two sets of units, and the annual production capacity of corresponding products will increase to more than 100,000 tons after the second phase expansion. Source: BDO Research Institute
