Wanhua Yantai 1.2 million tons/year ethylene project equipment delivered in advance

Recently, the second phase of Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park 1.2 million tons / year ethylene project 1028 tons of stainless steel ethylene distillation column delivered ahead of schedule.

It is reported that the 1.2 million t / an ethylene project is the core of more than 20 projects in the second phase of Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park. Among them, ethylene distillation column equipment, as the largest stainless steel tower in Wanhua Yantai Industrial Park, is the core static equipment of ethylene plant, with a diameter of 6.6m, wall thickness of 46mm, length of 107m and weight of 1028 tons.

The second phase of ethylene project is located in Wanhua Chemical Yantai Industrial Park. The project covers an area of about 1215 mu and plans to invest 17.6 billion yuan. Mainly build 1.2 million tons / year ethylene cracking unit, 250000 tons / year low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant, 2 × 200000 tons / year polyolefin elastomer (POE) plant, 200000 tons / year butadiene unit, 550000 tons / year cracking gasoline hydrogenation unit (including 30 000 tons / year styrene extraction), 400000 tons / year aromatics extraction unit and supporting auxiliary works and public facilities.

Different from the light hydrocarbon cracking route adopted in the first stage ethylene plant, the naphtha route is adopted in the second phase ethylene project. The first phase of the project uses propane as raw material, and the second phase uses ethane and naphtha as raw materials. Through the diversification of raw materials, we can further avoid the risk of market fluctuation and enhance the cost competitiveness of chemicals in the park. At the same time, the naphtha route is rich in finished products, which can form efficient coordination with the company's existing PDH integration project and ethylene phase I project after completion.

In addition, the second phase of ethylene project will achieve a significant reduction in carbon emissions through the most advanced energy optimization and integration in the plant, waste heat recovery and comprehensive utilization. Realize Unicom through long-distance pipeline, give full play to the efficient coordination of Yantai and Penglai parks, extend the development of product chain, and expand the production of high-end chemical products.

POE belongs to the latest generation of thermoplastic elastomers and is the star variety of high-end polyolefin new materials. It has many properties, such as excellent physical and mechanical properties, good low temperature resistance and processing rheology. It has been widely used in auto parts, photovoltaic film, wires and cables, machine tools, household products, toys, entertainment and sporting goods, soles, seals, hot melt adhesives and other fields.

According to the statistics of Huajing Industrial Research Institute, China's POE consumption in 2021 is about 640000 tons, an increase of 8.47% over the same period last year, and will maintain rapid growth in the future.

In particular, with the increase of photovoltaic installed capacity, the demand for photovoltaic film increases greatly, double glass modules continue to infiltrate, and the proportion of photovoltaic film material POE continues to increase. In 2021, China's POE application photovoltaic field surpassed the automobile market and became the largest single market. Photovoltaic accounted for 40% of China's POE demand in 2021, and the automobile market retreated to the second place, accounting for 26%. Until 2021, cars were the largest demand market for POE in China.

However, due to the patent protection of the catalysts needed for the production of POE by foreign enterprises, and the strict blockade of the process technology for the production of high-carbon α-olefins, an important raw material for POE, all the POE needed by China at present depends on imports.

Professionals say that the total global production capacity of POE particles in 2021 is only 1.58 million tons, all of which are concentrated in the hands of Dow Chemical, Mitsui Chemical and foreign companies such as ExxonMobil, LG and SK. There are no Chinese enterprises that can industrially produce POE products.

However, with the support of national policy, China's scientific research institutions and enterprises are stepping up research and development, and the localization of POE is about to be realized. Among them, Wanhua Chemical takes the lead in the layout of POE and continues its previous development strategy of integration, related diversification, refinement and low cost in the field of fine chemicals and new materials. In addition to Wanhua Chemical, Jingbo Petrochemical, Maoming Petrochemical, Silbang Petrochemical, Sinopec Tianjin Petrochemical, Wilson New Materials, Sinopec, Satellite Petrochemical, etc., all have plans to build POE units, and some enterprises have made important progress in small-scale or pilot-scale plants.

According to the Development Guide of the Chemical New Materials Industry during the 14th five-year Plan, the self-sufficiency rate of high-end polyolefins in 2025 will be raised to nearly 70%, and the policy is expected to accelerate the pace of domestic substitution.
