According to the Science and Technology Daily's news on June 28, 2023, the 300,000 tons/year coke oven gas to methanol and 100,000 tons/year liquid ammonia projects of Xuzhou Longxingtai Energy Technology Co., Ltd., which were contracted by Southwest Institute, have been put into operation and produced qualified methanol.

According to Sinochem Second Construction Project, on June 29, the 4#coke oven of the 2.6 million tons/year coking project of Xuzhou Longxingtai Energy Technology Co., Ltd. Infrastructure Branch of Second Construction Project successfully produced coke, marking that all four coke ovens of the project were put into operation.

Xuzhou Longxingtai coke oven gas to produce 300,000 tons of methanol and co-produce liquid ammonia uses an adsorption tower TSA-to remove tar and naphthalene, and then passes through a desulfurization tank and an iron-molybdenum converter for fine desulfurization. Through a preheating furnace and a reforming furnace, methane in the raw gas is converted into effective gases CO and H2 for synthesizing methanol, and then methanol synthesis and rectification are carried out to obtain methanol products. The purge gas from the rear of the methanol synthesis washing tower is extracted by PSA, and hydrogen and nitrogen are mixed in a ratio of 3:1 and sent to the ammonia synthesis unit.

This project is currently the largest single-series coke oven gas to methanol and liquid ammonia project in China. Using the coke oven gas to methanol process technology and special catalysts and adsorbents with independent intellectual property rights of Southwest Institute, the maximum annual output of refined methanol is designed to be 400,000 tons and the maximum annual output of liquid ammonia is 120,000 tons.
