The latest developments of international potash companies
The Australian mining giant BHP Billiton postponed its decision on the Saskatchewan Jansen Potash Project and is expected to make an important decision within a few months on whether to continue building a multi-billion-dollar potash mine in Canada in response to investors’ concerns. Concerns about potential risks of the project. BHP Billiton is still expected to make a final investment decision on the Jansen Potash Project around mid-2021, and is currently awaiting the finalization of the port and railway arrangements and the final risk assessment. As the final investment decision approaches, BHP Billiton has recently negotiated a potential partnership for the Jansen Potash Project with Saskatchewan-based fertilizer manufacturer Nutrien Ltd.
Michigan Potash & Salt Company (MPSC, Michigan Potash & Salt Company) announced the development of the US potash project strategy corresponding to the importance of the 96% dependence on foreign imports of US potash. It is reported that central Michigan has one of the highest grade potash deposits in the world. The new processing plant will be located near Ewat, Michigan, in the center of the U.S. corn belt, and will be the first new potash development project in the United States in more than 30 years.
