On the first day of Putin's visit to China, China and Russia signed the largest contract in history, with a 2.5 trillion food supply valued at 180 billion! Already arranged!
On the occasion of the opening of the 3rd Belt and Road International Cooperation Summit, Russian President Putin arrived in Beijing as scheduled. On the first day of Putin's visit to China, China and Russia signed the largest food supply contract in history, with a value of 2.5 trillion rubles, equivalent to more than 180 billion yuan according to current exchange rates. This is also one of the largest contracts in the history of China-Russia relations. The contract was not hastily arranged; instead, Russia will supply China with a total of 70 million tons of grains, legumes, and oilseeds over a 12-year period.
This contract will help normalize Russia's export structure within the Belt and Road framework, offsetting export losses towards Ukraine by exporting food from Siberia and the Far East. Russia's food exports to China will increase to 8 million tons and may further increase to 16 million tons with new infrastructure in place.
This major contract was signed on the day Putin arrived in Beijing, which is undoubtedly highly relevant. The contract accounts for half of China's grain imports last year. The contract is highly important for both China, which is in the key period of "autumn harvest," and for Russia, which has been facing difficulties in food exports due to Western sanctions.
