The world's largest single-cable capacity marine cable installation vessel completes operations and safely departs before the typhoon.

The 13th typhoon of the year, "White Dolphin," is continuously approaching the southeastern coast of China. It is expected to bring significant wind and rain to the East China Sea in the coming days. The coastal area of Ningbo initiated a Level IV typhoon emergency response at 6:00 PM on August 3. The Ningbo maritime authorities seized the precious window of opportunity before the typhoon's impact to fully support the world's largest single-cable laying vessel in completing its operations and safely departing before the typhoon's arrival.

At the Ningbo Orient Cable Terminal, the cable-laying vessel "Huaxia Dejing 108" is working at full capacity, striving to complete the loading of submarine cables and safely leave the port before the impact of typhoon "White Dolphin." This vessel is the largest cable-laying ship built and operational in China, with a cable-carrying capacity of 15,000 tons and an independent fiber optic cable compartment capacity of 3,000 tons. The cables being loaded are critical submarine cables for a large offshore wind power project, with high cargo value. If the cable-laying process is interrupted midway, the subsequent addition of specialized joints would result in economic losses exceeding tens of millions of yuan, and the project schedule would be delayed.

To ensure the vessel completes its work before the typhoon's arrival, the Ningbo maritime authorities closely monitored the typhoon's developments. Utilizing disaster weather risk prevention scenarios, they seized the precious window of opportunity before the typhoon's impact to fully implement various support measures. "We guided the ship's crew to reasonably arrange the work pace, used CCTV and drones to dynamically monitor the terminal's operational waters and surrounding areas, accurately tracked the cable-laying progress, and scientifically compressed work intervals to ensure each procedure was compact and efficient," said Hu Zihan, Deputy Captain of the Guangming Maritime Patrol Law Enforcement Team of the Ningbo Chuanshan Maritime Office.

On-site, the maritime authorities also urged the Orient Cable Terminal to conduct a comprehensive hazard inspection, focusing on mooring facilities, lifting equipment, and flood prevention channels, ensuring that emergency teams and rescue materials were fully in place.

After continuous intensive operations, at 3:00 PM today, the "Huaxia Dejing 108" successfully completed all cable-loading tasks and safely departed from the Ningbo Orient Cable Terminal. The maritime authorities will continue to strengthen duty and vigilance, fully ensuring the stability of water traffic safety in the jurisdiction. Meanwhile, they once again remind relevant port and shipping enterprises to closely monitor the typhoon's developments, scientifically adjust operational plans, and ensure that all typhoon prevention measures are effectively implemented.
