The "Standard for Hydraulic Calculation of Inland Waterway Regulation Structures" edited by CCCC First Harbor Engineering Institute has been released.
Recently, the Ministry of Transport released the industry standard "Standard for Calculating Hydraulic Forces on Inland Waterway Regulation Structures" (JTS/T 345—2026), authored primarily by the First Navigation Bureau of China Communications Construction Company. The standard will take effect starting November 1 this year.
The standard is based on the practical experience of the 12.5-meter deep waterway project downstream of Nanjing on the Yangtze River. It was compiled through a combination of theoretical analysis, physical model tests, numerical simulations, and field investigations. The chapters clearly outline the hydraulic force calculation formulas, coefficient values, applicable conditions, and position points for structures such as groins, sills, and mixed embankments. It uses tables to provide hydraulic force coefficients for toothed and semicircular components, featuring clear textual hierarchy for easy application by engineering personnel. For regulatory structures like groins, sills, and mixed embankments that alter local flow fields, this standard addresses the gap in previous specifications which were only applicable to structures like piles and piers that do not change the flow field structure. It fills the domestic and international standard gap in this field and serves as an important addition and expansion to the hydraulic force calculation content in the "Code for Loads of Port Engineering" (JTS 144‑1‑2010).
Following the release of this standard, it will provide crucial guidance for calculating hydraulic forces on mixed embankment components of inland waterway regulation structures in tidal sections, enhance the structural design and calculation level of regulatory structures, and propel high-quality development in the water transportation industry.
