Nanjing Waterway Resumes Work and Production with Full Effort After Typhoon

As Typhoon No. 13 "White Dolphin" gradually moves away this year, the wind and rain impact on the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River has significantly weakened. To quickly eliminate navigation hazards left by the typhoon, the Yangtze River Nanjing Waterway Bureau officially lifted the typhoon emergency response at 6:00 PM on August 11. They seized the window of opportunity before resuming navigation after the typhoon passed, conducting overnight waterway inspections, buoy repairs, and other tasks to ensure smooth navigation, fully restoring navigation conditions in the jurisdiction and strengthening the safety and smoothness of the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River waterway.

Relying on the digital waterway system for electronic patrols, the Yangtze River Nanjing Waterway Bureau quickly identified abnormal points through rapid warning and analysis of issues such as buoy displacement and light failures. They provided guidance for on-site repair operations. Using high-definition video surveillance along the jurisdiction, they conducted supplementary inspections, focusing on key water areas such as bridge zones and port zones, to identify floating debris, damaged buoys, and light failures on the river surface. Digital methods were utilized to enhance the efficiency of hazard detection.

Upon receiving operational orders, frontline staff promptly took action, conducting comprehensive inspections of the jurisdiction's waterways. They focused on checking bridge zones, port zones, anchorage areas, and dedicated waterway buoy displacements and light failures. Despite residual typhoon circulation causing persistent wind and rain on the river, the workers' clothing was completely soaked, yet they seized the time to carry out maintenance tasks overnight, including buoy repositioning, light repairs, and component replacements. Frontline teams worked tirelessly until 11:00 PM, repairing navigation facilities before the traffic control was lifted. That night, a total of seven abnormal buoys were repaired, including four key buoys in bridge zones, firmly safeguarding the safety baseline of the waterway.

Relying on the collaborative platform established by the "Party Building Joint Conference for High-Quality Development of Shipping in the Ning-Ma Border Waters," Yangtze River Nanjing Waterway Bureau comprehensively understood the scale and status of typhoon-avoiding vessels in areas such as anchorages, temporary stop zones, and tributary navigation locks, as well as traffic control arrangements by maritime departments in both regions. At the same time, they informed member units about waterway inspection information and key buoy dynamics at critical nodes, and provided suggestions for ship flow control in key segments, laying the groundwork for ensuring smooth navigation after the reopening.

Water traffic control is gradually being lifted, and ships on the river are resuming their voyages. After overnight emergency maintenance, the jurisdiction's waterways are operating stably, and buoy systems are functioning normally. The Yangtze River has returned to a busy and orderly navigation scene. Next, the Yangtze River Nanjing Waterway Bureau will continue to closely monitor weather and water conditions, increase the frequency of routine waterway monitoring, deepen collaboration with water-related units, and fully safeguard the safety and smoothness of the Nanjing section of the Yangtze River waterway, serving the high-quality economic development along the river.
