Tianjin Xingang Maritime Safety Administration Conducts Water Safety Awareness Campaign in Schools on International Day for Disaster Reduction
October 13 is the 37th International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. To enhance grassroots disaster prevention preparedness and emergency response capabilities, the Tianjin Xingang Maritime Safety Administration visited the No. 1 Primary School of Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area and organized a water safety knowledge science popularization activity. Maritime instructors leveraged their professional expertise in water traffic safety to help children master more disaster mitigation and rescue skills, effectively improving their knowledge and skills to respond to risks. This created a positive atmosphere of the whole society jointly building a safe and resilient community.

This activity focused on the theme of "Building Safe and Resilient Communities," emphasizing the resilience capacity building of the "smallest units" such as families and schools. It integrated water traffic safety knowledge with disaster prevention and reduction concepts. The instructors, using the characteristics of ship navigation as a basis, started with basic water traffic knowledge, boat travel safety information, and drowning prevention safety tips. Using simple and easy-to-understand language and relatable examples, they systematically explained water traffic safety knowledge and basic drowning prevention concepts to the students. Key points like staying away from dangerous waters, not swimming alone, properly wearing life-saving equipment, and using fire-fighting gear correctly were particularly emphasized.

The activity emphasized experiential science education, organically combining knowledge teaching with hands-on practice. On-site demonstrations of the correct way to wear children's life jackets were conducted, with key steps such as "quickly putting it on, fastening the buckles, and tightening the belt" explained one by one. Several students were invited to experience it on stage. During the knot-tying session, practical rescue knots such as square knots and overhand knots were demonstrated live, and students were organized into groups for practice. This immersive experience allowed students to master practical skills, turning dull safety knowledge into visible, tangible, and actionable self-rescue abilities, thereby effectively enhancing their self-protection capabilities.
This event was widely praised by both teachers and students at the school, with active participation and a lively atmosphere on-site. Moving forward, the Tianjin Xingang Maritime Safety Administration will take this as an opportunity to continue organizing a series of disaster prevention and reduction science education activities, continuously innovate forms of publicity and education, enrich content delivery, and promote the concept of disaster prevention and reduction deep into people's hearts. This will effectively strengthen the preparedness and emergency response capabilities of the entire society against disasters, contributing maritime strength to building safe and resilient communities and fortifying urban safety defenses.
